During the 80s the Swedish company Clavia manufactured electronic drums, such D-Drums. When they started with synthesizers their virtual analog modeling fast became a success. They are recognized not only by their extraordinary good sound, but also by their red color

DESCRIPTION

MicroModular is a polyphonic virtual analog synthesizer. It sounds and performs like a analog synthesizer, but without oscillators and different hardware for synthesis - the sound is virtual created assisted by computer power.

MicroModular can simulate a large modular synthesizer, with about 110 modules. You can patch and program them in the computer and save them in the MicroModular. On the MicroModular are three knobs that can be dedicated to optional parameter, for instance filter or resonance. After the MicroModular is programmed, unhook it and take it with you.

The sound is warm and smooth. It can also sound like Yamaha's FM-synthesizers. Or be a Vocoder. You can even master recordings through the modules.

At the front of the MicroModular you'll find MIDI in/out and PC in/out (MIDI) for the communication with the computer program. The sounds change in real time when you edit them with the computer. Then you can release the MicroModular from the computer connection and use it independently of the computer. There is a stereo pair audio out and a stereo pair in for connection of extern audio source, for instance a microphone. Then you can use the MicroModular as a Vocoder.

The MicroModular has only four voices, but can produce amazing sounds. If you need more voices you can:

  • Record a MIDI-file in the computer and then record an audio file from that. Record next MIDI-file and repeat this a number of times. In this way the Micromodular can have unlimited voices.
  • Buy a Clavia Nord Modular. That machine is the same as a MicroModular, but with 16 voices and more knobs. The sound architecture and the edit program are identical.
